Our Story
Three paramedics. One shared mission. Zero tolerance for vague feedback.
When we set up the company, we all still worked on the road. We still remember the chaos of shift-life-meets-deadline, and built The Confident Paramedic to help others feel a little more sure of themselves in it all.
The Confident Paramedic was born from years of late-night essay sessions, OSCE nerves, and real-life jobs that didn’t always match what the textbooks promised. We realised that while clinical skills get taught, confidence is something you build — and that applies just as much to academic work as it does to patient care.
We’ve taken inspiration from Chiron, the mythological centaur who taught heroes, healers, and gods. Known as the wounded healer, he represents wisdom through experience — the idea that your challenges can make you a better clinician, teacher, and learner. That’s the heart of what we do here: provide support that’s smart, kind, evidence-based, and grounded in real-world messiness. Confidence isn’t something you’re born with — it’s something you earn, with the right guidance. That’s where we come in.
Together, we bring clinical insight, education experience, academic know-how, and a healthy amount of honesty about how tough it can be to juggle it all. We’re not here to judge — we’re here to help. Whether you're writing your first essay, tackling your dissertation, prepping for a big interview, or just wondering if you're actually cut out for this — we’ve got your back.
Meet The Team
Abi Walker
Co-Founder
Abi brings a solid foundation in education and an English degree, which makes her weirdly good at decoding vague assignment briefs, tackling academic jargon, and turning marking criteria into something human. Her passion is in helping others feel like they actually belong in the academic space — and yes, she’s the one who insists on tidy paragraphs and semi-colons in the right place. Always asking "why?", and with an unhealthy amount of imposter syndrome in both her clinical and her lecturing roles, Abi enjoys de-mystifying everything from academic writing to patient assessment and report forms, finding confidence in knowledge and understanding. Outside of work, Abi can most often be found walking in the wilder parts of the country, often with a camera, and always with a novel or notebook.
Adam Yates
Co-Founder
Adam joined the ambulance service in 2015 as a Technician following eight years in the Royal Air Force. Not hailing from an academic background, he quickly found a passion for academia when he began his paramedic course in 2017. Since then, he has worked as a Practice Educator, Operational Commander and Clinical Leader whilst completing his BSc and has recently moved into Specialist Paramedic Practice. He is now studying an MSc. Adam is most passionate about research, service development and education. In his spare time, Adam is an avid bookworm and self-confessed science fiction nerd, often found in an armchair with a book, a woollen cardigan and slippers.
Alice Cheeseman
Co-Founder
Alice joined the ambulance service after a career in musical theatre, so she's no stranger to performing under pressure or putting on a confident face when things aren't quite going to script! Since becoming a paramedic, she's developed a passion for education and research, completing an MSc in Clinical Research with the support of an NIHR INSIGHT Award. She's particularly interested in how research can improve prehospital practice and is now working towards pursuing a PhD. With a love of academic writing, mentoring and helping others make sense of complicated topics, she's always keen to encourage students to think critically and build confidence in their own abilities. She's also usually got another project or idea on the go, much to the delight (sometimes) of everyone around her!
